Clubs don't need consultants, they need translators

When clubs are struggling, the first instinct is often to “bring in a consultant.” A consultant will arrive with binders, frameworks, and buzzwords and often leave you with a bill and a plan that never quite fits the messy reality of your club.
What clubs really need is not another consultant. They need a translator.
A translator understands that clubs live at the intersection of three worlds:
Boards focused on governance, risk and the long-term vision.
Staff juggling rosters, systems and member expectations day to day.
Members who don’t care about operational constraints, they just want a great experience every time they walk through the door.
Too often, those three groups are speaking different languages. Boards talk strategy, staff talk logistics, and members talk feelings. Misunderstandings pile up, frustrations build, and opportunities are lost.
That’s where a translator makes the difference.
A translator has lived in all three worlds - they’ve managed the finances, led teams, and delivered events that make members feel valued. They don’t just hand over a plan, they roll up their sleeves and help clubs implement it in a way that actually works.
At Club Whisperer, this is the space I live in. I don’t just consult. I translate. I take the priorities of the board, the realities of staff, and the expectations of members and help align them so everyone is finally speaking the same language.
Because when communication clicks, everything else flows: operations run smoother, staff feel supported, members feel heard and boards see results.
So if your club feels stuck, maybe you don’t need another consultant. Maybe you just need a translator.
